NEW MEMBERS:

The dojo is always open to any individuals interested in learning more about Goju Ryu karate. As well as improving your general level of fitness, martial arts such as  Goju Ryu karate improves mental focus, increases attention span and awareness, as well as developing effective self-defence skills.  We have also found that parents who train with their children have a common interest together that helps the relationship between parent and child.

How fit do you need to be before joining?

Karate is an exacting physical discipline that requires stamina, co-ordinated body movement and great strength. No one expects a beginner to have any of these attributes when they first walk into the dojo. Lessons are designed to gradually build physical fitness and allow the student to enjoy the whole experience of learning each new karate technique. You will be surprised at how even just a few month of training can make all the difference to your sense of well being. Karate will also complement any other form of exercise you may do.

What ages do we accept for training?

Junior students      6 to 10 years,

Cadets                   10 to 18 years  At present this group train with adults.

Senior students     18 years and above

The fact that you are in your middle years should not act as a deterrent to joining. Provided you are of reasonable sound body you will find the training will quickly build your stamina and general fitness levels and restore of quality of life you may have thought was lost to you forever. We have experience of students joining in their fifties and successfully grading through to their black belts. So it is the spirit you bring to the mat, not the age, that really matters.

How do I join?

Telephone Sensei stephen on 01202 775544 or email at Talbotkarate@sky.com to arrange a no-obligation visit.

Alternatively, please feel free to just come along to the appropriate training session, and ask for Sensei Stephen. You will be invited to sit at the rear of the dojo and just watch a class to get an idea of what Goju Ryu karate is all about.

We know the hardest step to take is to actual join in. All you have to remember is that every black belt started off with two left feet, doubting if they would ever attain the skill and speed of the black belts lined up in front of them. With dilgent training ... you can!

Rather than watch, you will be most welcome to join in the class on your first visit. You will need to wear loose clothing such as a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt. Don’t worry about joining in, an instructor will be close at hand to assist you during the warm up and will remain with you for the duration of the lesson. Please note you should never wear shoes in the dojo. Parents of junior students are welcome to stay and watch the class.
